Felices Vacaciones!!!

   En FGP Centro de Enseñanza de Inglés nos tomamos vacaciones hasta febrero. En febrero volvemos con mucha innovaciones, entre ellas nuestra nueva página web, donde podés hacer la prueba nivelación on line, etc. y con las pilas recargadas para hacer lo que más nos gusta: enseñar, dar clases de inglés de una manera dinámica, comunicativa y motivadora. Así que si tenés ganas de aprender inglés con profesores de inglés recibidos con títulos nacionales en un ambiente cálido, ameno y motivador te esperamos a partir de febrero!!

   El ciclo 2012 ha llegado a su fin y FGP Centro de Enseñanza de Inglés quiere felicitar a todos sus alumnos (desde los más chiquitos hasta los más grandes) por su gran desempeño académico, y también por el compromiso, interés y motivación que demostraron en las clases durante todo el año. Ésto, como profesores, nos hace realmente feliz, porque ntra. función es dar clases que mantengan al alumno interesado, motivado por aprender ya que mientras más motivado, interesado está el alumno, más fácil y placentero resulta el aprendizaje, y el haber logrado ésto, nos indica que estamos haciendo nuestro trabajo bien. Por último, queremos desearles que disfruten de sus merecidas vacaciones, y los esperamos el año que viene!!

- Vocabulary Tip.

Idiom es un grupo de palabra cuys significado es diferente a los significados de las palabras individualmente.  Idioms with black:

- A black sheep es alguien diferente del resto de la familia: My sister and brother are hard working whereas I'm a bit lazy. I suppose I'm the black sheep of the family. (Mi hermano y hermana son trabajodores mientras que yo soy un poco vago. Supongo que soy la oveja negra de la familia.)

- A black look es una mirada enojada: I said sorry but he didn't say a word. He just gave me a black look. (Le pedí perdón pero no dijo nada. Sólo me miró enojado).

-Be in the black es tener dinero, por ejemplo en tu cuenta bancaria: I´m finally in control of my financial situation. My account is in the black. (Finalmente estoy en control de mi situación financiera: tengo plata en mi cuenta bancaria).

- Grammar tip: Past Simple (pasado).

Hay dos tipos de verbos:

 a) REGULARES: se les agrega 'ed'. Por ejemplo: walk/walked, work/worked, start/started, etc.

 b) IRREGULARES: no se les agrega 'ed'. Por ejemplo: go/went, have/had, etc.

El verbo es el mismo para todas las personas; es decir: I/she/they worked o you/he/we went.

- Vocabulary tip.

   Algunos adjetivos son modificados por una palabra específica en lugar de very (muy). Por ejemplo: soaking wet (muy mojado, empapado), brand new (muy nuevo), crystal clear (muy claro), paper thin (muy delgada/fina). Por lo tanto decimos así:

- This bear is soaking wet. (Este oso está empapado/muy mojado).

-  This flat has paper thin walls. (Este departamento tiene paredes muy finas/delgadas).

- Grammar Tip.

En Inglés expresamos posibilidad usando may, might o could + infinitivo. Por lo tando decimos:

- It may be true. (Puede ser cierto)

- The phone´s ringing. It could be Tom. (Está sonando el teléfono; puede ser Tom)

- She might know our secret. (Ella puede saber nuestro secreto)

- Tip para mejorar tu gramática.

¿Sabías que en inglés cuando decimos la próxima semana, el próximo, mes, año, jueves, etc o el año, mes, martes, etc pasado no usamos el artículo 'the'? Por lo tanto decimos así:

- I went to the cinema last Friday. (Fui al cine el viernes pasado)

Por lo tanto decimos:

- Can I have the bill? (¿Me traes la cuenta?, en un restaurante en Inglaterra), pero
- Can I have the check? (en un restaurante en Estados Unidos).

- I like collecting old notes. (me gusta coleccionar billetes viejos en Inglés Británico), pero
- I like collecting old bills. (en Inglés Americano)

- Grammar tip: used to.

- Used to + infinitivo lo usamos para expresar hábitos del pasado,cosas que solíamos hacer en el pasado y que generalmente no las hacemos más en el presente. Por lo tanto decimos así:

- I used to play in the street as a child. (Jugaba en la calle cuando era chico.)

- She used to wear glasses. (Ella usaba anteojos.)

Importante!: Used to sólo lo usamos para hábitos del pasado, acordate que para hábitos en el presente usamos el presente simple.

Tip para mejorar tu gramática.

El segundo condicional lo usamos para situaciones imaginarias, hipotéticas y sus consecuencias. Lo formamos con: If + past, would ('d). Por lo tanto decimos así:


- If I won a million dollars, I'd travel around the world. (Si ganara un millón de dólares, viajaría por el mundo.)

- If tomorrow snowed in Buenos Aires, I'd be very surprised. (Si mañana nevara en Buenos Aires, estaría sorprendido.)

¿ Sabías que cuando el verbo y el sustantivo se escriben igual para diferenciarlos el sustantivo se acentúa en la primera sílaba y el verbo en la segunda? Por lo tanto decimos así:

- Some women wear a lot of make-up. (Algunas mujeres usan mucho maquillaje.)
- Mary's making up. (María se está maquillando)

- Usain Bolt wants to break the record in the next Olympic Games. (Usain Bolt quiere romper el record en los próximos Juegos Olímpicos.)

False friends son palabras que son muy parecidas a una palabra en castellano pero tienen otro significado. Por ejemplo:

- Sensible: significa sensato; entonces decimos: Say something sensible. (Decí algo sensato).

- Sensitive: significa sensible; entonces decimos: She´s a very sensitive girl. (Ella es una chica muy sensible).

¿Sabías que los adjetivos que terminan en '-ic' son graves (se acentúan en la penúltima sílaba)? Por lo tanto se pronuncian así:

- Historic (el acento está en to)                                - Ironic (el acento está en ro)

- Economic (el acento está en no)                           - Energetic (el acento está en ge)

- Excepción:

- Catholic (el acento está en ca, por lo tanto es esdrújula, se acentúa en la antepenúltima sílaba).

¿Sabías que en inglés cuando hablamos sobre cosas o gente en general, no usamos el artículo 'the'? Por lo tanto decimos así:

- I'm afraid of spiders. (le tengo miedo a las arañas.)

False friends son palabras que son muy parecidas a una palabra en castellano pero tienen otro significado. Por ejemplo:

- ACTUAL: significa real; entonces decimos: it wasn´t a ghost, it was an actual person. (no era un fantasma, era una persona real.)

- PRESENT/CURRENT: significan actual; entonces decimos: our present/current president is Cristina Kirchner. (nuestra actual presidente es Cristina Kirchner.)

   Saint Patrick's Day is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated on 17 March. It commemorates Saint Patrick (c. AD 387–461), the most commonly recognised of the patron saints of Ireland, and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. Saint Patrick's Day was made an official feast day in the early seventeenth century, and has gradually become a celebration of Irish culture in general.
    The day is generally characterised by the attendance of church services wearing of green attire and the lifting of Lenten restrictions on eating, and drinking alcohol which is often proscribed during the rest of the season.
    Today, St. Patrick's Day is probably the most widely celebrated saint's day in the world.
    In Argentina, and especially in Buenos Aires, long parties are celebrated in designated streets, since the weather is comfortably warm in March. People dance and drink only beer throughout the night, many people wear something green. In Buenos Aires, the party is held in the downtown street of Reconquista, where there are several Irish pubs.


    El día de San Patricio es un feriado religioso y cultural que se celebra el 17 de marzo. Conmemora al Santo Patricio, el más reconocido de los santos patronos de Irlanda, y el arribo del Cristianismo a Irlanda. Happy Women´s Day! The first International Women’s Day occurred on March 19 in 1911. The March 19 date was chosen because it commemorated the day that the Prussian king promised to introduce votes for women in 1848. The promise gave hope for equality but it was a promise that he failed to keep. Then, in 1913, The International Women’s Day date was moved to March 8. Since then, it has been held on March 8 to celebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across nations. It is also known as the United Nations (UN) Day for Women’s Rights and International Peace.

Feliz Día de la Mujer! El primer Día de la Mujer fue celebrado el 19 de marzo de 1911. Esta fecha fue elegida porque conmemoraba el día que el rey de Prusia prometió incorporar el voto femenino en 1848. Esta promesa daba esperanza de igualdad entre el hombre y la mujer, pero el rey rompió esta promesa. En 1913 se empezó a celebrar el Día de la Mujer el 8 de marzo. En este día se celebra los logros que las mujeres han alcanzado a través del tiempo en todo el mundo. Esta fecha también se la conoce como el Día de las Naciones Unidas para los Derechos de las Mujeres y la Paz Mundial.

Los genes y la inteligencia

La mayoría de los estudiantes están teniendo la impresión de que el estudio es algo aburrido y tedioso. Los niños inteligentes suelen ser aquellos que tienen una actitud positiva hacia el aprendizaje. Y mientras que el potencial de cada uno para la inteligencia ya está predeterminada por sus genes, este potencial puede verse influenciado por factores externos, tales como la influencia de los profesores, maestros.

Factores externos que afectan la inteligencia

Las primeras impresiones son muy importantes. De la misma manera que primero nos enteramos que debemos permanecer lejos del fuego para no quemarnos con algo caliente, también, creamos impresiones acerca de los estudios en función de las primeras experiencias. Si el profesor presenta la idea que aprender Inglés es una responsabilidad, entonces el estudiante puede verla como tal y puede rechazarla a favor de cosas más agradables, como jugar, por ejemplo. Sin embargo, si el maestro presenta el aprendizaje de Inglés como algo divertido y agradable desde el principio, entonces el estudiante tiene más probabilidades de tener una actitud positiva hacia el idioma. Y si el estudiante tiene una actitud positiva hacia el aprendizaje de Inglés, será más receptivo hacia la información nueva y estará más dispuesto a aprender cosas nuevas, lo cuál, contribuye a su propio desarrollo y le ayuda a alcanzar su verdadero potencial.

Además, si uno intenta darse cuenta, las cosas que le interesan normalmente permanecen en la cabeza por más tiempo que las cosas que le resultan aburridas. Si un estudiante tiene una actitud negativa hacia el aprendizaje, entonces cualquier cosa que se le presentó para el estudio sería clasificado de forma automática como "aburrido". Sin embargo, si el aprendizaje se le presenta a él como algo divertido, entonces es más probable que encuentre algo que realmente le interesa porque no va a estar con la mente cerrada sobre los temas que se les enseñan. Por lo tanto, hay juegos, canciones, actividades para el aprendizaje de Inglés que los profesores pueden y deben utilizar. Ya que aprender Inglés debe ser divertido con el fin de ayudarles a comprender mejor el idioma. Y ésto es lo que hacemos en FGP Centro de Enseñanza de Inglés para que el aprendizaje de inglés te resulte entretenido, interesante como lo dice nuestro slogan: 'where learning is fun-tastic!'
